Natural Resources

The fertile land of Shangqiu is endowed with abundant resources. Yongxia Coal Mine, with coal deposits of ten billion tons, is one of the six largest anthracite bases in China. So far, the annual yield of coal has come to 13 million tons, which makes Shangqiu the third biggest coal-mining city in the Henan Province. In addition, two more coalfields were recently discovered in Shangqiu, which, according to initial estimates, contain over 1.8 billion tons of coal deposits. Yongmei Group has successfully established cooperative relationships between Shangqiu Bao Steel Company and CVRD in Brazil. Shangqiu is also an important development zone in the Yellow River and Huai River Plains, a main production base of grain, cotton, oil, animal husbandry products, a famous subsidiary agriculture products base and is also well-known as the “Hometown of Paulownia”.

Human Resources

Considerable achievements have been made in the field of education. Elementary and secondary education has developed well and the scale of higher education is being extended step by step. There are more than 4,000 schools and colleges in Shangqiu, among which are 9 key middle schools and high schools. The number of key schools ranks second in the Henan province. There are 6 colleges and universities and the number of undergraduates reaches up to 350,000. This ensures a steady stream of professional talent for a city growing in leaps and bounds. In addition, the fact that a large number of these graduates are proficient in the English language coupled with the existence of a large number of English training schools for students of all ages indicates that Shangqiu is ready to welcome foreign tourists and companies with open arms.
