Being located in the eastern part of the Henan Province, at the junction of four provinces, namely, Henan, Shandong, Jiangsu and Anhui, makes Shangqiu an important business center and a goods and materials distribution center. Shangqiu connects the central-west areas with the south-east coastal areas and is an important outpost for implementing the strategic project of “connecting the east to the west”. There is also a convenient transportation system here. The Longhai Railway, also known as the Eurasian continental bridge, originates in Lianyugang in China and terminates in Rotterdam in the Netherlands, crosses over 6 counties of Shangqiu City, meets the Beijing-Kowloon Railway and transfers over 5 million passengers every year. Highway No. 105 from Beijing to Zhuhai joins highway No. 310 from Tianshui to Liangyugang here in Shangqiu. The expressways, Lianhuo, Shangzhou, Shanghe, Shangbo and Yongdeng, also meet here. Interestingly, they form a communications frame in the shape of the Chinese character “米”. With an airport for military and civil aviation under construction, Shangqiu will become a multi-level and all-round regional communications hub.
